Earthy & Boyle
1954 "Death of S. E .Earthy - Well-known Horticulturist".  Mr Sidney Ernest Earthy, well-known horticulturist of Westmoreland Avenue, Gidea Park, was buried at Woodman Road Cemetery, Warley, yesterday (Thursday).  Mr Earthy, who attained his 67th birthday last week died at Harold Wood Hospital on Saturday.  He had been ill for about six months. Before his retirement two years ago, he was head rental superintendent for both the Romford Gas Co., and latterly the North Thames Gas Board.  He and his wife were both keenly interested in horticulture and it is generally accepted that they kept one of the best rockeries in the district.  Well known at local shows, it was in Mrs Earthy's name that entries were made. She won many awards but Mr Earthy would never take any praise himself.  Both he and Mrs Earthy were vice-presidents of the Squirrels Heath Horticultural Society.  Mr Earthy had also been associated with the Romford Allotments and Gardens Association, the St. Michaels Horticultural Society and the Haynes Park and Nelmes societies.  During the First World War, Mr Earthy served in the Royal Navy, and he served in the Home Guard during the last war.  He leaves a widow."
